Monday’s Jack Update with Bonus Footage. | Fetch My Flying Monkeys
Everyone needs a fleet of flying monkeys to rip the stuffing out of the annoying people in their lives
— Laura

Jack is getting better and stronger every day. He still occasionally stumbles, especially after first waking up. And sometimes he stands with a foot knuckled over, which I am told is one of the last things they learn not to do. But he has come so far from where he started, which was completely paralyzed, it’s unbelievable.

Now here’s a video I took of him outside:

I know I can’t video worth a shit, and I’m not even going to try to learn. I’m just going to call it my “Blair Witch” style and let it go at that. So don’t start telling me in the comments how shitty my camera work is, how for a few seconds it looks as though I passed out, or had a seizure, or that I filmed it while riding a unicycle. I’m a fucking artist and that’s called avant-garde filming. Yeah, that’s it. Avant-garde, you sonsabitches, that’s French for “Fuck you, I’m awesome.”

Now here’s a short video where I knew for sure Jack was getting back to his old self. I call this piece “Sniffin’ Cat Ass.”

Jack the wonder dog. He should have his own reality show.

  2. Tink says:

I am so very happy for you both. Yay Jack! Notice I said nothing about your movie skills. I just have to say that you got some really great footage of grass.

  3. Princess says:

OMG! He is so cute. Lookin good Jack.

  4. October Rain says:

WOW! He looks great. Congrats Jack! You have worked hard and it shows… (Good Mommy)

  5. He is doing wonderfully! I am so happy for you and Jack. Not sure how Thelma feels at the moment.

And your avant garde style is very progressive.

  6. Yabu says:

He’s making nice progress. Looking good. Those neuro-spinal people are amazing, eh? Buy ‘em a beer on Stretch.

Stretch also did that knuckled over thing for a while.

I’m telling you, it’s amazing how much Jack and Stretch look alike.

  7. Tammy says:

omg. he was running! good for you both. He’ll be luring George Clooney in in no time!

  8. Cinder says:

When Jack feels good I know MaMa feels good to. So happy for you both….

He’s trotting! That makes my heart happy. Love the end of the video with him and Tinks. His precious face at the end… mommy, make her come back. I’m not done sniffin’. awwww

  11. Erin says:

When I see his little pictures it make me want to get a Doxie. He is so sweet. I’ll bet he is a little cuddle bug. Glad he is feeling better.

  12. Mark12A says:

Don’t sell yourself short. You can video worth a shit.

And that look on Jack’s face…like “that’s some amazing ass!”

We’re all very happy about Jack’s progress. Yours not so much. But what the hell.

  13. zonker says:

I love his look back over his shoulder at the end of the second video…”Wait, you were filming that shit?!”

  14. Jena says:

    2 Videos! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on the 2nd I especially loved how he touched Tink’s side and looked away! After after his morning sniff of said cat’s ass… he looks like “Did I do it right? Did she notice?” So fucking sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(I think that’s the right amount of exclamation points, not sure)

  15. Ricki says:

So happy for you and the Jackster! Stumble in the morning after first waking up? Hell, who doesn’t?

  16. Roxie says:

Jack will be ready for All Hallow’s Eve! :)

  17. QueenBee says:

I especially enjoyed the musical score to piece number 2…. sniffing cat ass! Great choice. Happy as happy can be for you and Jack. Our fur babies are family!

  18. LusherLaRue says:

Can’t think of a better way to start off a Monday – a happy, ambulatory, ass-sniffing Jack staring in two avante garde films. All is right with the world (except for that motherf’ing storm off the East coast).

  19. untbunny says:

I woke the family with my laughter this morning at your first video. Not at Jack but the videographer! Damn, Laura. Did you have a bottle of gin in the other hand?

BTW Are you and Jack dressing up for Halloween?

  20. rick says:

Jack needs some gang shit. That’ll put the fear of God in that damn cat. Ole tinks will think twice about coming round to Jacks hood.

  21. ManhattanMaven says:

YAY Jack!! Sniffing cat ass and everything!! You’re doing SO well in your recovery…and the upside is…since you’ve been under the weather…there’s a CHANCE she won’t dress you up as a transvestite hooker for Halloween!!

  22. Nicole says:

Really great to know he is up and about. :) I’m very glad for you.

  23. SB Smith says:

Wonderful seeing Jack doing so well !
I thought it was hilarious when his sister had walked just past him and she turned to look at him and he looked away like “I wasn’t lookin’ at you….”

Sorry off topic but I saw a nail polish you might like. Revlon # 360, “Mischievous”. It’s an odd brown. Without bright light I thought it looked like either very dark, wet, sand, or dark, wet concrete.
The photo color is pretty dead on accurate. Darker when dried.

    Smoochies for Jack !

    • Laura says:

Those two usually play constantly. Jack probably looked away so he wouldn’t provoke him into playing.

Ooooo…I’m going to have to check out that polish! Thanks!

  24. CGHill says:

Okay, you may not be up for the Oscar for Best Cinematography, but that’s damned fine background-music selection.

  25. Jeffro says:

    What a happy little turd!

  26. Brian says:

Just came across your blog a week ago. It’s great. Glad your dog is doing better. What was the music on the 1st video?

  27. mark smith says:

“He still occasionally stumbles, especially after first waking up.”
    Who among us doesnt?
    Go Jack!

  28. cheri says:

I am so glad that Jack is doing so well.
Def need your antiseizure meds adjusted, although it kinda looked like you were both wagging your tails form the joy that is founcing in the grass!!

  29. scr_north says:

Jack looks great, he sure is coming along fast. I noticed that the cat seems really tentative around him. Has Tinks always been like that or just since Jack was hurt? On the other hand maybe the cat is just concerned that Jack is waiting in ambush for him and could go to “Full Cat Tormenting Power” at any time.

    • Laura says:

No, no they are both friends that play tag all the time. I think Tinks was kinda scared of the puppy pee pads on the floor- which he’s over with now. Jack is not allowed (now that he’s weakened) to be around the cats without supervision. If I’m away from the house Jack is in a large open wire kennel that he can safely watch TV and the cats from.

  30. Sheri O says:

    Love the video!
