My apologizes for not writing for a bit. I’ve been super busy what with going back to work and Jack’s care and I have seriously not been in the mood to be humorous or even slightly entertaining. Not that I ever was, mind you, but in my head I’m super funny and witty and two sizes smaller.
Anyway, Jack is doing well. He started wagging his tail last week and thrusting himself up on his front elbows and laying on his sternum instead of flat on his sides. And yes, I always rotated and propped him up so he didn’t get pressure sores, so don’t start on me Internet! He had a follow-up appointment with the surgeon Saturday who said he was doing great and said it could be another 7 to 8 weeks until he’s fully recovered. Then yesterday he STOOD UP ON HIS OWN. Of course, he looked like he had just taken four expired Benadryls and drank a half pint of gin (not that I would know what that’s like. SHUT. UP.) but HE STOOD UP ON HIS OWN and that’s what counts. So we went into full rehab mode here, which takes up a lot of my time, including coming home at lunch. I’ve become obsessed with getting him back on his feet again and back to terrorizing the household.
Oh, get a load of his harness with a handle he got at the Rehab Department at the surgeons:
I'm thinking he can use it for rock climbing after he's recovered.
So, I’ll be putting up “Links to Enjoy” over there on the sidebar and as Jack’s rehab progresses, I’ll be blogging more often. And again, thank you everyone for your well wishes and all the good vibes you sent. They seem to be working.
Yeah Happy Dance……… So glad to find out Jack is doing wonderfull. Nothing can keep Jack down for long. Of course it has a lot to do with a Momma’s love and touch. You focus on taking care of you and Jack will be waiting to hear more of his progress. Don’t worry we ain’t going anywhere.
Have you considered putting BACON across the room to entice him to get it? Oh wait, never mind, that would involve you sharing bacon… not happenin. best recovery Jack, we are all routin for ya!
I know you have been busy and that’s why I haven’t been pestering you here or in email. Thank you for updating up and what AWESOME FUCKING NEWS!!!
Did you ever get that link about back braces for wiener dogs? I think I found it the day of Jack’s “moment”. I had just seen it in a side bar on face ass. Not that it would do any good NOW.
What great news to read!! Go Jack!! He’s got a good Momma who’s working hard to help him.
I’ve been telling my cat, Abbey, to keep Jack in her kitty prayers and she said, “I hate dogs but Jack’s cool so I’ll do some kitty voodoo to help him.” She’s got his back!
YEAH! Great news! All dogs go to heaven…but not freaking NOW! Much MUCH later. NOW they have to get back to being little demons and terrorizing the household.
“standing up is Huge”. It’s just gonna take some time. I know you know this, but discs and nerves take a while to heal. Standing on his own is a good sign. He’s a lucky dogie to have a dog momma like you. Good Good Juju coming from all of us here. I was giving Stretch an update, and he said great, won’t be long before we can go run some bitches. Bitches dig scars.
This made my day. So glad that Jack is recovering beyond the expectations of his surgeon, and keeping his Mommy happy by being such a star patient. Hang in and keep us updated when you catch your breath.
I cant tell you how happy you have made me by posting this wonderful information. I have been so worried and praying hard for our Jack. Love u Jack. Keep strong for your mommy.
Great. I sacrificed two pounds of thick-sliced bacon to Jack’s recovery and your continued hotness. It appears to have worked.
Don’t worry…the sacrifice involved a griddle, toasted whole-grain bread, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, and took a couple of days. My friends and I had your picture (sans George Clooney, thank you very much) and a statue of a weiner dog dressed in a halloween costume like a hot dog. It was cool.
This is fabulous, Laura. Merv and Dot send cat/dog vibes to Jack (I remind them as they lie all sprawled out “You can do this because you want to. Jack HAS to for awhile. You should be very grateful. To which the open one eye and go back to sleep. But they DO care.)
Great to see you back Laura and especially great to hear Jack seems to be ahead on the recovery curve. I must say though that the harness looks complicated and techie enough to imagine Jack wearing it while walking down the Space Shuttle gantry in slow motion with his fellow astronauts on a mission to claim the planet Bacon for all mankind. Whoa, got to stop making those demerol sundaes!
I completely understand the excitement of seeing Jack stand again! So happy to hear this. One year ago one of mine had Canine Geriatric Vestibular Disease. You probably know about this as a former Vet Tech. She couldn’t stand, eat, hold her head up, or keep her eyes still. For two weeks she literally laid on her side and whined. She is a German Shepard so moving her was so difficult. I waited on her hand and foot. Just like you are doing with Jack. I bet when he did his newborn calf stand you squealed with joy. I did!
Wonderful to see that he is doing well! You never quite realize how important they are till something like this happens.
Now the important item does he have to wear the “Cone of Shame”?!? I hope it is not a sadistic streak present in me, but there is always something about a dog in the cone of shame picture that makes me chuckle a bit! It may be their mournful pouty look, or that down-right ticked off look that lets me know I will soon be replacing some freshly chewed item! Glad to hear he is on the recovery road!
We’ve been on the road for two weeks and the phone service (hot spot) and the “free” shitty Internet service at the various hotels along the way have been spotty at best. So I’ve been checking Facebook every chance I get to see if there’s an update on Jack.
Soooooooo happy today to log on and see that he’s actually standing and you both are okay! Thanks for updating and keep truckin’ on Jack!!
This is such awesome news !…Jack STANDING UP !
I know he appreciates all you’re doing for him, and as his mom I know it would never occur to you to be anything Other than Supermom.
I felt that way when our Ridgeback had some weird virus and it scared the shit out of us.
Hugs for you, Laura, and smooches for Jack including on those little puppy dog feet !
Fantastic news! I know Jack will get stronger each day because of the excellent care he is getting. Many good thoughts and get well vibes have been sent your way!
Awesome, awesome news!!! I’m so happy hear to your cute little terror is doing so well. Yay! I even had a bacon sandwich in your and Jack’s honor last night. Keep up the good work with him.
I do have a question about the harness. Is the harness positioned with the top (section that covers his back) on the top; thus the handle on the rear section? I can’t wrap my brain around how the harness is to keep is spin in position. No rush, just curious and can’t locate the answer.
I LOVE THE BANNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANT WAIT FOR HALLOWEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHATS JACK GONNA BE THIS YEAR? He could just wear that really cool jacket thingie….
He is very tenacious.
And thank you.
Good. My apprentice-voodoo magic has worked and Jack is getting better and you have return. I’m frying the bacon as I type in celebration.
You have taught me well.
Ha Keep that voodoo going!
YAY is right! I’m glad everything is going well!
Me too!
Awesome news! I am so happy for you both.
Thanks!
Yay, Jack! I’m so glad he’s doing better
Thank you, me too.
HE STOOD ON HIS OWN!! And that’s awesome news to wake up to
He’s gonna be chasing cats before you know it! Go Jack!
YES! It was quite pitiful yet wonderful at the same time.
I bet it was way more wonderful than pitiful. I bet you cried, too!
I know I would have!
Tears of joy.
Yay! *Kermit flail* I hope Jack is spending his down time drawing you thank-you cards with pictures of gin-drinking dinosaurs.
He really should be!
Have you considered putting BACON across the room to entice him to get it? Oh wait, never mind, that would involve you sharing bacon… not happenin. best recovery Jack, we are all routin for ya!
I’m thinking a cat turd would work better than bacon.
Wow, he sure is progressing at a very fast rate! That is very hopeful!!
I’m so happy to hear the news, and hope and pray for him and for you every day.
Thank you very much.
Yay!
I too credit the bacon!
Yay bacon!
YAY!! Can’t keep a good dog down!
For sure!
Go Jack! We’re all pulling for you!
And, Laura, don’t forget to take care of yourself, too.
I’m fine, just tired. And thank you.
I knew this day would come. He will be runnin soon and you’ll be chasing him and cussing like normal…..He’s a good boy and you’re a terrific mommy.
I’m still cussing.
YEAAAAAAA JACK.
Yay!
Looks like a jump suit to me – skydiving!!!!
happiness abounds and the crowd roars
I need to buy him goggles!
And thank you.
Best news I’ve had in a while! I’ve been checking your blog every 5 minutes like a crack head.
So glad to hear this, Laura.
Ha! I knew I should have updated earlier, my bad.
Aannyywho…. still sending Reiki to you both!
Yes I saw it. The surgeon said “no.” I always do what their docs say. But thank you.
Keep sendin’ ‘em, girl!
Ha! Thank Abbey for me.
YEAH! Great news! All dogs go to heaven…but not freaking NOW! Much MUCH later. NOW they have to get back to being little demons and terrorizing the household.
Been praying. It worked. No need to thank me.
Thank you anyway.
And not till much much later.
So glad that Jack is improving. A nice cat bed or sofa pillow might entice him as well as bacon! Hope the progress keeps coming fast!
Me too for sure!
“standing up is Huge”. It’s just gonna take some time. I know you know this, but discs and nerves take a while to heal. Standing on his own is a good sign. Cool harness, you need to put some decals on it.
I was thinking a superman emblem, but then again AlWAYS BE BATMAN.
He recovers we’ll come up there to the weenie races TO WATCH.
I’m gonna hold you to that. Give Jack a scritch behind the ears for me.
Will do.
This made my day. So glad that Jack is recovering beyond the expectations of his surgeon, and keeping his Mommy happy by being such a star patient. Hang in and keep us updated when you catch your breath.
I will try to do better with my updates.
Great news.
I know, right? He still has a way to go.
I’m so glad things are getting better! Yay for Jack and yay for you! Bacon an circus peanuts all around!
I’ll drink to that.
So glad to hear good news, I was just thinking of him yesterday and wondering how he was getting along.
He’s a hot mess, but better!
Happy Happy Joy Joy. Thanks for the update – a wonderful start to my day. Love to you and Jack and lots of energy and light coming your way.
And thank you.
I cant tell you how happy you have made me by posting this wonderful information. I have been so worried and praying hard for our Jack. Love u Jack. Keep strong for your mommy.
Thank you.

Proof voodoo works, especially bacon voodoo! Ha!
Hooray! Go, Jack, go!
HIP HIP HOORAY!
Woot! Go Jack! And Go YOU!
Woot!
YEAH! Go Jack! I’m so glad for you & Jack
Go Jack! And thank you.
Thank you for the update! I’m very happy to hear how well Jack is doing.
And thank you for your well wishes.
Great news, Laura! I’m very happy and relieved.
Me too, though he still has a long road ahead. It’s a step though.
This is fabulous, Laura. Merv and Dot send cat/dog vibes to Jack (I remind them as they lie all sprawled out “You can do this because you want to. Jack HAS to for awhile. You should be very grateful. To which the open one eye and go back to sleep. But they DO care.)
HAHA! I bet they do! And thank them for us.
Ha! I’m pretty sure Jack would love to be in zero gravity about now.
If I was Jack, I’d be counting my blessings and thankful for having someone that is willing to be so kind.
Give yourself a pat on the back. Your care and devotion is extraordinary.
Well thank you, but I’m pretty sure Jack now expects a chauffeur and a personal shopper (which I basically am also.)
I did!
I was at first I was like “WHAT THE HELL?” Then I squealed and told him what a good boy he was.
Don’t you feel so damn helpless when this kind of stuff happens?
Yee Haw!!! And when you slap that harness on your baby, you can carry him like a six pack!
I know! I can work out my six pack carrying arm!
No, no Cone of Shame. That was other surgery just a few months ago.
Yay! Thanks for taking the time to update on you & Jack. Glad to hear things are going well.
You’re welcome and thank you.
Happy to see things are getting better.
Me too, thank you.
Thank you. I know, I’ve been really bad updating.
He needs to start using those lil puppy feet!
And thank you.
I’m one of the people that have been stalking, um, checking repeatedly with great concern, on your blog so I’m thrilled to see this great update.
Way to go, Jack! We know nothing will keep this good man down!
I know I was very bad about updating. And you can stalk, er, check my blog anytime.
This is great new’s, Have been checking every day on his progress..thanks for the update.
You’re more than welcome.
Fantastic news! I know Jack will get stronger each day because of the excellent care he is getting. Many good thoughts and get well vibes have been sent your way!
I hope he does…so far he seems to.
I’m glad you are back and that Jack is doing better!
We’ll keep those happy thoughts flowing…
Please do! At least until he up and back to his world domination planning.
Awesome, awesome news!!! I’m so happy hear to your cute little terror is doing so well. Yay! I even had a bacon sandwich in your and Jack’s honor last night. Keep up the good work with him.
And keep eating bacon thinking of Jack! Thank you.
I do have a question about the harness. Is the harness positioned with the top (section that covers his back) on the top; thus the handle on the rear section? I can’t wrap my brain around how the harness is to keep is spin in position. No rush, just curious and can’t locate the answer.
One day I’ll take a pic of him wearing it.
Jack can wear that into a bar to pick up girls. he can tell them he a fighter pilot or paratrooper…. Thats cool… hey.. can I borrow that?.
I doubt it’d fit.
I LOVE THE BANNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANT WAIT FOR HALLOWEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHATS JACK GONNA BE THIS YEAR? He could just wear that really cool jacket thingie….
THanks. I think he’ll pass this Halloween.
Hurrah! Great news….thanks for posting Laura…don’t like your banner though…it’s scary!
Life is scary. And well yes, flying monkeys with chainsaws would be pretty scary.
With apologies to Sylvia, your banner is fucking awesome!
Thank you!
